Perhaps when you think of a wedding location in Spain it’s Andalucía, the Balearic Islands, Madrid or Barcelona that first spring to mind? And how wonderful they are too!
But, there is a region of Southern Spain that has over time been quietly building itself an enviable reputation as a top-class place to get hitched. Why? Well, that’s because of its hugely diverse offering to couples wanting to marry in this wonderful part of the Mediterranean. Where? It’s the Costa Blanca of course!
Let me bring you into the fold and reveal the wedding secrets of the Costa Blanca region, and I challenge you not to want to learn more!
Tell me more about the Costa Blanca
Ok, so, the Costa Blanca (The White Coast) - Located on the south east coast of Spain stretching roughly from Torrevieja in the south up through the city of Alicante to the small town of Gandia in the north. Some 180 kilometres of coast, coves, countryside and mountains including quaint traditional towns, cosmopolitan cities, unspoilt islands and more.
This region has long been a favourite with European holiday makers escaping the cold and grey of northern Europe since the 1960’s. Popular for its climate and miles of golden beaches, what’s not to love?
However, this visually stunning region is a hidden gem for those with dreams of a charming wedding in Spain. With fabulous wedding venues and an outstanding array of wedding suppliers providing everything that you will need from flowers to hair to wedding celebrants and more.
I’ll let you into our secret and tell you why the Costa Blanca rocks for weddings, if you’ll allow me to expand on some of the finer details of this blossoming wedding destination.

Ok, so we have it all here in the Costa Blanca, beaches, mountains, hotels, fincas, castles, boats, villas, rooftops and more! So, let’s explore this a little…
"From Boho to Glamfest and everything in between it has to be the the Costa Blanca for your destination wedding in Spain" – Wedding Planner
Reason #1 - Beach Weddings
Let’s start at the beach because after all, there is mile upon mile of stunning coastline that naturally lends itself to amazing beachside weddings. If you’ve dreamed of a “sand beneath your feet” setting to say your “I do’s” then you will not be disappointed.
Whilst a licence is required to hold a formal wedding ceremony on most public beaches in Spain, there are several top-class hotels that are well geared up to offer just this service and what’s more, they do it really well.
For a micro-wedding or vow renewals there is a lot more flexibility and if you work with a professional wedding celebrant and you choose your time wisely you can create a really intimate atmosphere to remember.
Popular locations for on-beach weddings are in Guardamar del Segura, as well as Villajoyosa and Oliva. There are also a couple of fantastic wedding planners in the region who have experience of gaining the necessary approvals to hold beach weddings in other locations. They are definitely worth a chat to as they are super skilled at making this happen. Want to know who to speak to? Message me for more info.
If you want a “Beach Wedding” but you want to keep your heels on, then a beachSIDE wedding venue is what you need! With a beachside wedding as opposed to an on-beach wedding the number of options and venues grows dramatically.
There are some totally stunning places that have wedding set-ups that are simply amazing. Included in this is a selection of great hotels with offerings at all levels in Calpe, Valencia, Javea, La Manga, La Zenia and Denia. Message me and I’ll share the details!
Many venues have established links with wedding celebrants to officiate at your wedding or blessing, but there is nothing to stop you choosing your own celebrant to work with, after all, it’s important that you connect with the person that you are entrusting to create your “I do’s” for a fabulous independent celebrant click here
A really cool option to think about is a beachside restaurant. Moraira, Calpe and Javea have some real choice to offer in this department from Ibiza style sundowner vibe weddings to fine dining events. One that springs to mind offers an arrival by speedboat option which is a definite crowd pleaser and creates the ultimate wedding snaps!
Finally, a Chiringuito/beach bar is another choice that’s worth a look, particularly if you prefer a relaxed style. Yes, some can be beach-shack style but there are also some great mid to high end offerings in these popular on-beach hostelries. Alicante City, Calpe, Moraira and Javea have lots of this style of venue available for hire.
Reason #2 - Castle Weddings
Are you thinking grand and magnificent? Well, did you know that you can actually marry at Alicante castle? The ancient fortification of Santa Barbara Castle perched high above the city of Alicante with views that are truly tremendous is just a dream of a wedding location.
This ancient castle has an events space as well as being available to hire in its entirety to create a truly magical wedding in its extensive cliff top courtyard. It’s also becoming a popular choice for couples wishing to renew their vows or commitments to each other. Recently a romantic couple who docked in the city on a cruise chose to renew their vows during their shore visit, what a fabulous idea!
Ceremonies are also held in front of and inside other historical castles in this part of Spain for example the Castillo de Moraira on the seafront of this charming fishing town.
Reason #3 - City Weddings
For a cosmopolitan look and feel, Alicante city itself offers interesting marina and cityscape hotel venue options for a wedding in both the old and new town. One of my absolute personal favourites are its magnificent rooftops which provide a unique wedding ceremony setting, many feature the city’s distinctive rock and castle in the direct background and create one of the most atmospheric backdrops for your ceremony photographs.
If marrying in Alicante you really must have a photograph outside the old cathedral doors and on the promenade des anglaise with its distinctive coloured mosaic tiles it was simply made for a wedding photoshoot! Discover more about Alicante weddings
Reason #4 - “Real Spain” Weddings
If it’s character and traditional Spain that you crave, then the characterful town of Altea with its famous blue domed Church of Our Lady of Consolation is a must! Alicante’s narrow streets of the old town and Javea’s port are brimming with Spanish charm not forgetting Guadalest, Callosa D’en Sarria and the brightly coloured townhouses of Villajoyosa to name just a few of the quaint pueblos you should check out.
Fincas, Cortijos, Maisas and Torres are in abundance on the Costa Blanca with many of these old farms and estate houses tastefully renovated and operating as successful wedding venues for both Spanish and international couples. I confess that these are amongst my dream wedding venues to be found in this part of Spain. But alas, I’ve had my turn! Maybe I could renew my vows? Anyway, I digress.
There are some truly stunning historical buildings on the Costa Blanca whose owners have lovingly restored and transformed them into magazine worthy venues. They are dripping with history and character whether inside or outside and the creativity for styling the venues is unrivalled. Every detail from the style of chairs, its dressing, to the tables, the festoon lighting and the size and setting has many options for you to choose from to create your wedding theme. Most of these venues are a little off the beaten track in the countryside but still within easy reach of the airport and beaches. There are some great options in the Elche, Gran Alacant and Marnia Alta areas.
Reason #5 - Private Villa Weddings
Hosting a wedding in a family or rented Villa is an increasingly popular choice for weddings on the Costa Blanca. Allowing you to create a relaxed vibe with events in the garden and grounds or around the pool. Everything from flowers to furniture to catering can be hired in whilst some villa owners operate as complete destination venues in themselves providing everything you could need and taking away any hassle.
I love a villa wedding vibe it just has a more relaxed look and feel.
A handy tip is to make sure that if not owned by you, that the villa is appropriately licenced for such an event as AIRBN parties can be brought to an abrupt halt by the Guardia Civil if the villa doesn’t have the correct permissions and that is an instant wedding vibe killer.
Reason #6 - Mountain and Island Weddings
The unique island of Tabarca is seemingly untouched by time, reached by boat normally from Santa Pola this magical island whilst small also has some wonderful restaurants that offer a wedding breakfast for couples who wish to celebrate their wedding on the Island. The boat ride to and fro creates a special wedding day experience for both the couple and their guests.
If you’ve visited the Costa Blanca previously you will be aware of how the remarkable mountain ranges provide the most beautiful backdrop and set a majestic tone to the region. It is also Spain's second most mountainous province, with more than 50 peaks standing at over 1,000 metres high including the Sierra de Bernia and the Puig Campana.
There are cute towns and villages nestled amongst the mountain ranges with established venues providing breath-taking scenery from every corner available to hire for your magical wedding ceremony.
Reason #7 - Golf Resort Weddings
For a country club vibe there are is a great choice of golf clubs and resorts that offer the perfect wedding ceremony packages for those who like a resort feel.
What better way to combine 18 holes with the “I do’s” if that’s your thing. I’ve seen some fabulous photographs of a bride and groom teeing off in their best wedding attire!
Often with fabulous resort facilities including pools and spas there’s something for all your guests to enjoy outside of the wedding festivities.
Golf resorts for wedding venues can be found in and around La Manga, Benidorm, Alicante, Quesada and Denia.
Reason #8 - Boat Charter Weddings
If you fancy hiring a super cool cruiser or sailing yacht for a ceremony at sea, that’s an option too! As long as you have your sea legs then an intimate wedding ceremony afloat at sunset or whatever time strikes you is an option on the Costa Blanca. There are even some larger vessels kitted out with bars and all mod cons that would make perfect wedding mini cruises.
